March 17th 2021 Learnt a new tech tool today – using Zoom to video conference with The Runners Health Hub. Aileen and Karen from the Hub will be joining us in 2021 on the Health & Fitnesses Day/Weekend. So as we are currently battling through some very strange times it made my day to be able to plan ahead to the future. Great to see and talk to these women and looking forward to working together.
On Wednesday 4th March 2020 Mandy and I took part in a half day training course for Mental Health Awareness. There is so much more to know and learn but we thought this would be a good place to start.
We feel better informed and confident to launch the ‘Mind the Mud’ runs which start in 2 weeks time. It helped us focus on what we were offering and why. We decided that the runs were inclusive – open to anyone and everyone.
2017 is going to be a big one for me personally as well as F4F Events. I have taken on big challenges, the biggest being ‘The Windy Long One’. A fund raising event for the John Van Geest Cancer Research Centre based at The Nottingham Trent University.

As I’m sure everyone is, I am looking forward to Christmas and a bit of a break to spend some time with the family and friends. But it has been a busy few weeks cracking on with preparations for The Windy Long One.
All of our participants have done or are in the process of creating a Just Giving page, and they are coming up with ways to support each other in training and make more people aware of the Windy Long One. A lot the athletes have been using local events to get the training miles underway, the most recent one was the Turkey Trot. From the Windy Long One participants we had myself, Julia, Kirsten, Cath and Dave who all took part.
A huge thank you once again to RaceHub, who hosted ‘the mince pie ride’ on Sunday 18th December as they are kindly making a donation to the Windy Long One from this event.

So we’ve set ourselves a few New Year’s Resolutions for 2017, the first and most important is to do more training! Moving into the new year it is critical that all of the athletes are on top of their training, we want to start as we mean to go on ensuring everyone is fit and healthy until the big event. Alongside that I am aiming to spend a lot of time planning fundraising events for the Windy Long One to help spread the word around the local communities and get as many people on board as possible.
Our first fundraising activity will be a Watt bike-a-thon on the 22nd January 2017, the participants of the Windy Long One will complete 8 hours of watt biking at East Leake Leisure Centre to raise awareness of the event and the John Van Geest Cancer Research Centre. There will be music, a cake sale and possibly tears but please come along and show your support, any donations are greatly appreciated. – November 2016 – The Launch
As most people know me and many of my friends do like a challenge, and I am always on the look out for the next big thing to challenge myself, (and others!!), hence the decision to create – The Windy Long One. 5k swim in Lake Windemere, 200m bike ride from Windermere to Nottingham and then the Ikano Bank Robin Hood Marathon all for The John Van Geest Cancer Research Centre based at The Nottingham Trent University.
The John Van Geest Centre is a worthwhile casue working hard to find a way to prevent or cure cancer. They say; “Our aim is to save lives and speed recovery by improving the early diagnosis and treatment of cancer.”.

So they event itself, is a 4-day challenge between the 21st and 24th September 2017. The swim will take place in lake Windermere on the Thursday. Then the first bike leg on the Friday will go from Windermere to Hathersage a total of 120 miles. Along the route we have 2 feed stations and a lunch stop. Then the Saturday is the remaining 90 miles on the bike from Hathersage to Nottingham Embankment, again with 2x feed stations and a lunch stop. Then to finish off on the Sunday we will be completing the Ikano Robin Hood Marathon. Then we will all meet in the F4F Event Gazebo for a well-deserved celebratory glass of fizz!
This is huge challenge and to make it work we need about £2500 worth of sponsorship.

Pauline and Sally are swimming 5k in Windermere, Katy Tudbury is running the Ikona Marathon, Katy Melton will be running the half marathon. She will also be joining us in training rides and swims – and be a reserve should anyone need to pull out.
We also have our fabulous & very much appreciated support crew…
Gary Tudbury will be ensuring we all get to Windermere along with our bikes and kit, he will then be bike support throughout the two day bike legs.
Martin Findlay and his pal Nigel are our kayak/canoe support for the swim in Lake Windermere. And will be training us in how to swim straight!!
So now you know a bit more about The Windy Long One 2017. We will all be launching ourselves into some heavy training over the next 10 months and we will keep you posted as to how we are getting along.
